The Grounds of Alexandria – Alexandria

I opted to start my culinary journey with a visit to The Grounds’ flagship cafe, where I indulged in a hearty breakfast of avocado toast topped with poached eggs, feta cheese, and dukkah. The combination of creamy avocado, runny egg yolk, and crunchy toast was simply divine, and I savored each bite as I soaked in the lively atmosphere.

After breakfast, I explored the various food stalls and vendors scattered throughout The Grounds, sampling an array of delectable treats ranging from freshly baked pastries to gourmet sandwiches and artisanal cheeses. As I wandered through the crowded lanes of the Chinatown Night Market, I was immediately drawn to the sights and sounds of sizzling woks, bubbling broth pots, and vendors hawking an array of mouthwatering dishes. From traditional Chinese dumplings and Japanese ramen to Korean barbecue and Thai curries, there was something to satisfy every craving and palate.

One of the highlights of my visit to the Chinatown Night Market was sampling a steaming bowl of traditional pho from one of the market’s many Vietnamese stalls. Highlights included the “Snow Egg,” a whimsical dessert featuring poached meringue, ice cream, and fruit sorbet, as well as the “Mud Crab Congee,” a comforting bowl of rice porridge topped with succulent crab meat and crispy shallots. Upon entering Bourke Street Bakery, I was greeted by the irresistible aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries, which beckoned me further into the cozy interior. The display cases were filled with an array of tempting treats, from flaky croissants and buttery tarts to hearty sausage rolls and savory pies. I opted to indulge in a classic pork and fennel sausage roll, which was piping hot and packed with flavor—a perfect snack to enjoy on the go.

The Winery – Surry Hills

Tucked away in the heart of Surry Hills, The Winery is a chic and stylish wine bar that offers a sophisticated yet approachable dining experience. With its extensive wine list, innovative cocktails, and diverse menu of seasonal dishes, this trendy establishment is the perfect destination for a relaxed meal or drinks with friends.

Upon entering The Winery, I was struck by the venue’s elegant decor and welcoming atmosphere. The bar area was lined with shelves stocked with an impressive selection of wines from around the world, while the dining area featured cozy banquettes and communal tables perfect for sharing plates with friends. I opted to start my meal with a refreshing glass of sparkling rose, which paired perfectly with the restaurant’s signature cheese and charcuterie board.

For my main course, I indulged in the grilled barramundi fillet, which was served with a zesty salsa verde and a side of crispy shoestring fries. The fish was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor, while the fries were golden and crunchy—a match made in culinary heaven. I also couldn’t resist sampling a few of The Winery’s small plates, including the crispy calamari with aioli and the roasted cauliflower with tahini and dukkah—each dish was expertly executed and bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors.

No visit to Sydney would be complete without indulging in a sweet treat from Gelato Messina, a beloved gelateria that has been delighting locals and visitors alike since 2002. With its creative flavors, creamy textures, and commitment to quality ingredients, Gelato Messina has earned its place as one of Sydney’s most iconic dessert destinations.

Upon entering Gelato Messina, I was greeted by the sight of colorful display cases filled with an array of tempting gelato flavors, from classic chocolate and vanilla to exotic options like salted caramel, pistachio praline, and blood orange sorbet. After much deliberation, I opted for a scoop of the “Mango Pancake” gelato, which featured swirls of mango puree, chunks of pancake, and ribbons of maple syrup—a nostalgic nod to my childhood breakfasts.
